Greenpixie secures £250k Pre-Seed investment led by Ascension

12 July 2022, London: Greenpixie – the world’s expert in measurement & reduction of digital carbon – is proud to announce its first fundraise, which will accelerate the production of its first-of-its-kind solution to address the escalating digital carbon crisis, now over 4% of global emissions. The raise was led by Ascension, with participation from several prominent angel investors – Christian Arno and Ross Johnson. 

The £250k raise will speed up the growth of Greenpixie’s groundbreaking flagship product, Cloud NetZero, which will accelerate the process of reducing at source the impact of carbon emissions on cloud computing.

Greenpixie’s vision is to merge sustainability and the digital world via scalable software tools to empower businesses to measure and reduce the carbon emissions of their online activities. With over 10 years of software and digital marketing startups under their belt and created 6 digit revenue-making companies, John Ridd (CEO) and Will Tinney (CTO) were already working together when they received the email that led to Greenpixie. Rory Brown (now Greenpixie’s Head of Sustainability) shared an episode from a TV show with them in November 2020 about a 4% black hole in global carbon emission reporting: digital carbon.

The environmental impact of digital activity is hugely significant and dangerously under-reported. It is currently estimated that by 2025, the technology sector could consume 20% of the world’s total electricity. A study by the IDC claims that worldwide annual traffic will increase by 60%, with cloud computing driving the majority of this growth.  

Cloud NetZero, the first tool produced by Greenpixie, will demystify the environmental impact of cloud computing, through integration with cloud providers such as AWS (Amazon Web Services), Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure: unlocking unrivalled transparency and actionable data on cloud emissions across organisations. The beta is now at capacity, with a waiting list of over 150 companies in the pipeline. As well as that, Greenpixie is holding its soft launch on the 20th of July, where it will demonstrate key new features of Cloud Net Zero reduction at source capacities.

In developing Cloud NetZero, John and Will have expanded their team to not only build the groundbreaking product, but to reach the burgeoning market for cloud computing emissions data. The small team encompasses a blend of technical, creative and communications experience, rallied behind the urgent environmental cause – and huge business potential – of Greenpixie’s wider mission.
