MediShout secures £4.3 million Seed investment led by Nickleby Capital

MediShout, the digital platform that unifies all helpdesks and medical suppliers onto one app, has closed a Seed round of £4.3m led by Nickleby Capital. The round was also joined by KHP Ventures, the first venture fund to spin out of the NHS, Atomico Angels (Steve O’Hear and Dharmesh Malam) and existing investor Episode1 Ventures.

Founded by two NHS doctors, Ash Kalraiya and Ali Bahsoun, MediShout aims to turn outdated hospitals into digitally-smart environments by providing a ‘one-stop’ app for hospital staff to report any operational problem. Users can track every status update and order, similar to the user experience of Deliveroo or Amazon.

MediShout’s predictive-analytics technology can even anticipate future issues before they occur, which helps to prevent non-clinical problems from disrupting hospital operations.

The idea for MediShout came from the founders’ own experiences as doctors within the NHS. Ash Kalraiya, an orthopaedic surgeon, had to cancel numerous operations during his career due to issues like faulty equipment, broken theatre lightbulbs or printers not working. In 2019 alone, the NHS had a 32% rise in procedures cancelled due to non-clinical problems [1], and the NHS now has a backlog of care of over 7 million patients [2].

The complexity of hospitals, with hundreds of operational departments and suppliers working in isolation, makes it hard for staff to navigate and resolve issues quickly. This not only leads to staff frustration but significantly reduces the quality of patient care. MediShout’s platform solves this problem, helping to reduce the backlog of care and ensure hospital systems work for hospital staff, not against them.

With some of the world’s largest equipment manufacturers already signing up to MediShout’s platform, the company is internationalising and on course to be in 100 hospitals by the end of 2023.

“We founded MediShout to address the operational problems that prevent best patient care in hospitals,” said Ash Kalraiya, co-founder of MediShout. “Our platform streamlines communication between hospital staff and suppliers, which improves efficiency and saves time. This is particularly important as hospitals are facing significant pressure due to the backlog of care caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. We are delighted to have secured this funding, which will enable us to continue our international expansion and help more hospitals around the world.”

“MediShout is an exciting solution for a huge problem,” said Saavan Shah, Managing Partner at Nickleby Capital. “The founders have the right experience and vision to make a real difference in the healthcare industry, and we are thrilled to be supporting them on their journey.”

With this new funding, MediShout aims to continue its international expansion and improve its platform’s features to further assist hospitals with their operational challenges.
