Tooth Fairy Healthcare secures £3 million Seed investment led by ADA Ventures and Slingshot

Toothfairyannounces an oversubscribed $4 million Seed Round

  • Toothfairy™ is the winner of ‘app of the year’ and the UK’s first and only health regulated dental app
  • Founded by two dentists, who leave behind treating millionaires and celebrities to now solving issues affecting millions of people annually
  • Backed by ADA Ventures, Seedcamp, Slingshot Ventures and Atomico Angels Programme as well as co-founders of Funding Circle.
  • The app exists to solve the dental crisis worsened during Covid with 19 million dental appointments being missed due to the pandemic

The first app of its kind, Toothfairy has now announced raising an oversubscribed $4 million seed round, quadrupling its valuation in under a year and attracting new investors. Having been crowned winner of ‘App of the Year’, it is the first dental app to attain healthcare regulation and is a certified medical device.

Co-founders Dr. Deepak Aulak and Dr. Kian Dhinsa graduated together from King’s College London and have left behind treating millionaires and celebrities in their own clinics to now help solve the widening gap of poor dental access affecting millions across the UK.

With over 19 million dental appointments being missed due to Covid-19 and over 54% of the population not knowing how to access dental care out of hours – Toothfairy is the worlds first digital dental clinic that can diagnose, treat and track patients remotely using its unique technology. Patients can uptake a range of services via the app from emergencies and prescriptions to straightening and teeth whitening.

Its patent-pending technology connects patients to dentists on demand, through a secure platform coupled with unique detection and tracking of dental issues. The app is completely health regulated, the first dental app to achieve this. Having been evaluated in the NHS- over 91% of users reported they would use the app as an alternative to visiting a clinic and 89% of patients reported it would reduce their need for them to visit A&E/GPs for dental advice.

Dr. Deepak Aulak commented:

“From first hand experience as dentists, we’ve seen patients have to overcome many hurdles in servicing their oral health needs. We are developing proprietary AI and Image Recognition technology to empower patients. With so many dental diseases preventable we are pioneering a new way for patients to uptake dental treatments and see a dentist on demand through amazing technology.”

The recent round was led by ADA Ventures and Slingshot Ventures, with participation from Seedcamp, All Iron, Haatch, Atomico Angel Programme and Kube. Angels include the co-founders of Funding Circle James Meeking and Andrew Mullinger, Angel Investor of the Year Deepali Nangia, ex-Transferwise Joe Cross and Grabyo’s Will Neal.

The app is challenging the sector of dentistry that is ripe for disruption, with many hurdles and friction points for patients, from access, to anxiety and affordability.
