Pastoral Agricultural Technologies (t/a Pastoral) secures £205k Pre-Seed investment led by SFC Capital

Pastoral Secures £205k Pre-Seed Funding from SFC Capital and Sturgeon Capital for Sustainable Livestock Farming Technology

London-based AgTech startup Pastoral has announced that it has successfully raised £205k in pre-seed funding, led by SFC Capital and followed by Sturgeon Capital. The Pastoral platform is working to provide regenerative farming technology to the world’s livestock farmers and ranchers. The platform aims to help these farmers and ranchers transition towards sustainable and regenerative farming practices by offering actionable insights based on real-time data which increases profit and decreases environmental impact.

Pastoral’s founding team includes Josh Thomas as CEO, with over 10 years of experience in Developmental Innovation and field engineering as a UN consultant, and Shea McManigal as CFO, who brings over a decade of experience in accounting and finance.

“Livestock producers require advanced technology to optimise their business, and in the near future, measuring their carbon footprint will become mandatory. SFC Capital recognised this need and aided in backing Pastoral in their journey to become the leading regenerative farming solution,” said Stephen Page, CEO at SFC Capital.

Pastoral’s unique offering was initially developed in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which partnered with the startup and provided catalytic grant funding,  support, and guidance as it grew. The company recently graduated from the UNDP’s Cultiv@te Incubate for Innovation in Sustainable Agriculture.

“We are thrilled to have the support of the UNDP as we work to revolutionise the livestock farming and ranching industry. Our goal is to make regenerative farming accessible to everyone, and we believe we can make that a reality,” said Shea McManigal, Co-Founder & CFO.

With the new funding, Pastoral plans to expand its team and continue developing its technology platform. “The next 12 months are all about taking our existing product and getting it into the hands of farmers and ranchers across North America, Europe, and Central Asia. We’re excited to see an explosion of users who can finally track the animals, introduce sustainable farming practices, and collect better data about their farm,” said Josh Thomas.

Pastoral’s platform is designed to make it easy for farmers and ranchers to transition towards sustainable and regenerative farming practices. By using real-time data and analytics, farmers and ranchers can monitor the health and well-being of their livestock and make informed decisions that help them achieve their sustainability goals. The platform also provides insights into the environmental impact of livestock farming, allowing farmers and ranchers to make adjustments that minimise their environmental impact.

“Pastoral has done a remarkable job at removing the barriers to introducing sustainable farming and ranching, focusing on rewarding farmers for good behaviour and accelerating a transition to Net Zero,” said Shea McManigal.

The platform is already making a difference for farmers and ranchers in the US and Central Asia, and with the new funding, Pastoral plans to expand its core audience. “We believe that regenerative farming is the future of agriculture, and we are excited to be at the forefront of this movement. With the support of our investors and partners, we are confident that we can make a real difference in the world,” said Josh Thomas.
