Metaview Global secures £4.5 million Seed investment led by Vertex Ventures US

Metaview raises $6m to help high-growth businesses offer fairer and more rigorous job interviews

  • Metaview’s Interview Intelligence platform allows businesses to capture unique data and analytics from hiring interviews
  • This data is used to help customers understand and improve interviews – a vital part of their hiring process
  • Metaview has grown over 300% YoY and is used by some of the world’s most ambitious companies, including Robinhood, Anduril, AngelList, and Hudl

Wednesday 1st December 2021Metaview – the pioneering Interview Intelligence platform – today announces its $6 million seed funding round, bringing the total amount raised to $7.6 million. Metaview’s platform enables fast-scaling businesses to harness data to strengthen and optimise the most important part of the hiring process – the interview.

The round was led by Vertex Ventures US, alongside additional investors Fly Ventures, Seedcamp, Village Global, PrimeSet, Moving Capital (Uber alumni fund), and Palumni (Palantir alumni fund). Current customers include Robinhood – one of the fastest-scaling companies globally – as well as Anduril, AngelList, and Hudl. The company will use the funding to develop its product offering, accelerate market expansion across Europe and the US, and triple team size over 2022.

The limiting factor for any rapidly-scaling business is their ability to identify, attract, and hire the best talent. A key problem is the interview process. Interview formats are often ineffective, with interviewers too frequently relying on intuition to evaluate candidates, rather than data-driven insights. This leads to subjective and inconsistent hiring practices, throttling the development of high-quality teams. The consequences are stark: businesses without a standard interview process are five times more likely to make a bad hire, and half (49%) of in-demand candidates have turned down an offer due to a poor experience during hiring.

Metaview enables businesses to quickly and easily level-up their interview process. Founded by Siadhal Magos and Shahriar Tajbakhsh, product and engineering leads from Uber and Palantir respectively, Metaview’s platform records and transcribes interviews, then provides unique data alongside automated training tools to help individual interviewers and broader hiring teams improve. The result is quicker hiring processes (Metaview customers have experienced a 28% reduction in time-to-hire), hiring decisions informed by data rather than merely memory, and a more consistent interview experience for candidates.

The platform’s automated analysis of interview transcripts helps identify and address issues found in the interview process. One problem is that of gender-bias, which typically sees women given 12% less speaking time during interviews than men. The platform also tackles issues around lack of rigour among interviewers; Metaview’s data shows that almost a quarter (23%) of hiring managers ask fewer than five questions of each candidate.

Metaview already helps power the interview processes of hyper-scale companies such as Robinhood, Anduril, AngelList, Hudl, and many others across the US, UK, and Europe. The company has grown well over 300% year-on-year, with thousands of hiring decisions optimised every month as a result.

Siadhal Magos, co-founder and CEO of Metaview, commented:

“Our mission is to power hiring decisions with truth. The best companies know it’s their people that determine their ability to succeed as an organisation. Yet for the longest time they’ve been recruiting based on guesswork, memory, and bias. Previously, any data that was used to improve hiring performance only ever measured the symptoms, never the causes. Now we can bring transparency to the previously opaque interview process, and use technology to improve the most important moments in hiring.”

Jonathan Heiliger, General Partner from Vertex Ventures US commented:

“As former founders and operators, we understand how consequential hiring decisions are, yet the process is inconsistent, opaque, and full of unconscious bias. We’re excited to support Metaview as they bring transparency to job interviews, and insights to interviewers about how best to improve their tactics.”

Kyle Murphy, Chief People Officer of Hudl:

“Metaview is the best way to coach and develop interviewers on the team, and gives us the data we need in order to know if we’re running a fair and rigorous process.”
