Cypher secures £670k Seed investment from angel investors

Edtech startup Cypher takes investment to £670k

Leading coding school Cypher has today closed a funding round of £225k in investment following exponential growth following their recent pivot to take the business online.

The round, led by a series of angel investors, takes Cypher’s total raise to £670k

Cypher was founded in 2016 by serial entrepreneur Elizabeth Tweedale. Cypher offers creatively themed coding camps for children aged 5 to 14 with the aim of inspiring children to learn coding, computational thinking, problem solving and communication.

Recently, the business pivoted its offering entirely online days before the lockdown was enforced to ensure children across the UK still had access to necessary learning opportunities. Over the past few months, Cypher has worked with over 350 children, who have completed more than 3,700 learning hours online.

The round of funding will be used to accelerate the company’s growth, by scaling these online camps alongside Cypher’s in-person offering this summer.

On the investment, CEO Elizabeth Tweedale said:

“Throughout lockdown our aim has been to keep children learning and engaged, as the ability for children to learn how to code is key in preparing them for their futures.

“The recent pandemic has caused many challenges. It’ll be the ideas and companies created by our children that will change the future.

“Our recent injection of funds is incredibly exciting as it will help Cypher continue to teach more children globally as we continue our expansion to the US and Middle East.”
