UK-based startup raises £265k to make discovering and booking tailored camping stays effortless

The positive impact on our physical and mental wellbeing of connecting with nature has never been clearer – if nothing else, the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that. Planning a trip that helps us to “find our wild” and disconnect from our busy lives for some much needed downtime, though, is so much harder than it needs to be.

Wildpoint, a new outdoor experience platform, is addressing this head on. Wildpoint enables lovers of the outdoors to search, browse and book outdoor stays effortlessly, saving users hours of planning time. The online marketplace – with its mission to “make the outdoors more accessible to all” – gives people the ability to search for campsite stays, glamping stays and private & unique camping spots whilst filtering these based on site characteristics such as waterfalls, lakes and forests, as well as by nearby activities, such as wild swimming, surfing or mountain biking.

Wildpoint was founded in December 2020 by Oliver Windle, an entrepreneur with keen travel interests and love of the outdoors. Windle previously worked at a variety of UK startups in UX and Product and is applying his experience to help others reconnect with what nature has to offer.

“Travelling and connecting with nature has always been deeply important to me,” explains Oliver. “Planning a recent trip to the Outer Hebrides to camp and hike once again highlighted both a lack of designated camping spots and the difficulty in finding the right stays for my trip. Past camping trips to the western states of America and others highlight this as an ongoing problem well beyond the UK and there remains a clear opportunity to innovate in a market that has been left behind by the rest of the travel industry.”

This innovative startup successfully closed a pre-seed round of £265k in June 2021. The raise attracted Venture Capital funds and private investors alike, with lead investor QVentures being supported by further funds from ADA Ventures.

Oliver has built a team of talented individuals with previous experience at Airbnb, Microsoft, Airbus and beyond. This funding round will enable Wildpoint to accelerate its plans for expansion and increase the pace at which it can push out great features for campers and hosts alike as well as broaden its offering in the UK market. Wildpoint is launching its public platform this season, and anticipates attracting campers and hosts initially from across the UK.
